Empower & Employ 5-Week Series

Empower & Employ is a 5-week employment skills program.

Join us for our 6-week Empower & Employ Series! This series is designed to empower you and equip you with lots of new employment skills. This workshop series is great for newcomers, but anyone can benefit! If you have a device (i.e. laptop or tablet) please bring it to the sessions. If you do not have one, please let program@womenscentrehalton.ca know ahead of time; we have a few available for use on a first-come-first-serve basis!

Please note that although this eventbrite notes the event to be October 18th at 6pm, it is really a 5-week program that takes place every Wednesday at 6pm from October 18th to November 15th. By signing up for this event, you are signing up to attend all 5 sessions. The first 2 session will be virtual through zoom and the last 3 will be in person at our Oakville office. The sessions are outlined below:

October 18th, 6pm-7:30pm, virtual – Networking

You have your LinkedIn profile ready – a picture, a summary, your online resume. Now what? Are you waiting for people to discover you? Or are you ready to explore the exponential power of social networking? With this workshop, you will come away with innovative ideas and hands-on action plan to connect with the right people on LinkedIn and how to convert them into real connections.

October 25th 6pm-8pm, virtual – Personal Branding

You have a great LinkedIn profile, and you are networking to put yourself out there. Recruiters are looking for people like you every single day and most of them start their search on LinkedIn. Are you sure you show up when they look for you? With this workshop, you will come away with breakthrough ideas and practical actions to build your personal brand. You will be encouraged to pick your niche and start building content that aligns with your expertise and build thought leadership.

November 1st , 6pm-7:30pm, in person Oakville Office – Resume Writing

Learn tips and tricks for resume writing: what do hiring managers look for in resumes, how to format, and how to tailor your resume to the job you are applying for.

November 8th, 6pm-7:30pm, in person Oakville Office – Cover Letter Writing

Learn tips and tricks for cover letter writing: what is a cover letter and what information should be conveyed? How do you format a cover letter and how do you address it?

November 15th, 6pm-7:30pm, in person Oakville Office – Interview Skills

Interviews can be daunting, but they don’t have to be! Learning information about how to answer tricky interview questions, and knowing what questions are a nono for interviewers to ask can help you be prepared for your next interview!

Meet the Speaker: Nidhi

Nidhi Mehra is a seasoned advertising professional and is currently working as an Account Manager at Walmart Connect Canada. She is a PT Marketing Professor at George Brown College, Toronto. She facilitates workshops for newcomers to help them break the cultural barriers to ensure faster economic integration and eventual career success, and also posts regular content on LinkedIn for newcomers to Canada to help them navigate the job search and settlement in Canada. Meet the Headshot Photographer: Michelle

Michelle is the photographer and owner of Sisterhood Photography Co, a female owned and operated photo company in the GTA. Focusing primarily on branding photography, her goal is to empower females in business who are struggling with believing in themselves. Through photography, she builds their confidence in both themselves and their work so they can begin living their dream life. More than just a photography service, her hope is that every girl not only feels empowered throughout their time together, but also welcomed to her community of fellow females in business afterwards!

Hailey Tsolakis is a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) with the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario (HRPA). She has 5+ years of experience in recruitment, career services, and employee engagement.

Hailey is a proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and a strong supporter of inclusive practices and wellness in the workplace. She is most passionate about helping people build awareness and confidence in their own skills through building a safe and interactive learning space.
