Join us for our 7-week Empower & Employ Series! This series is designed to empower you and equip you with lots of new employment skills. If you have a device (i.e. laptop or tablet) please bring it to the sessions. If you do not have one, please let program@womenscentrehalton.ca know ahead of time; we have a few available for use on a first-come-first-serve basis!
Please note that although this eventbrite notes the event to be March 27th at 6pm, it is really a 7-week program that takes place every Monday at 6pm. By signing up for this event, you are signing up to attend all 7 sessions. The sessions are outlined below:
March 27, 6pm-7:30pm, in person – Skill Exploration
Join in on fun exercises to discover what your skill set is, and what types of careers align with your skill set!
April 3 , 6pm-7:30pm, in person – Resume Writing
Learn tips and tricks for resume writing: what do hiring managers look for in resumes, how to format, and how to tailor your resume to the job you are applying for.
April 10, 6pm-7:30pm, in person – Cover Letter Writing
Learn tips and tricks for cover letter writing: what is a cover letter and what information should be conveyed? How do you format a cover letter and how do you address it?
April 17, 6pm-7:30pm, in person – Interview Skills
Interviews can be daunting, but they don’t have to be! Learning information about how to answer tricky interview questions, and knowing what questions are a nono for interviewers to ask can help you be prepared for your next interview!
April 24, 6pm-7:30pm, virtual – Networking
Different cultures have ways of doing things differently. Entering a new culture may require us to unlearn a few things and re-learn a few. We need to make efforts to fit in. But instead of forcing ourselves to fit in, we need to find a balanced approach that is true to ourselves. With this workshop, you will come away with innovative ideas and techniques to diagnose cross cultural differences and fit in without giving yourself away.
May 1, 6pm-8pm, virtual – Personal Branding
You have a great LinkedIn profile, and you are networking to put yourself out there. Recruiters are looking for people like you every single day and most of them start their search on LinkedIn. Are you sure you show up when they look for you? With this workshop, you will come away with breakthrough ideas and practical actions to build your personal brand. You will be encouraged to pick your niche and start building content that aligns with your expertise and build thought leadership.
May 8, 6pm-8pm, in person – Q&A and LinkedIn Headshots
Join Nidhi & Hailey back in our office for a Q&A session regarding anything you have learned over the past 6 weeks. While you are getting your questions answered, get professional headshots for your LinkedIn profile from a local photographer, Michelle!

Meet the Speaker: Nidhi
Nidhi Mehra is a seasoned advertising professional and is currently working as an Account Manager at Walmart Connect Canada. She is a PT Marketing Professor at George Brown College, Toronto. She facilitates workshops for newcomers to help them break the cultural barriers to ensure faster economic integration and eventual career success, and also posts regular content on LinkedIn for newcomers to Canada to help them navigate the job search and settlement in Canada.
Meet the Headshot Photographer: Michelle
Michelle is the photographer and owner of Sisterhood Photography Co, a female owned and operated photo company in the GTA. Focusing primarily on branding photography, her goal is to empower females in business who are struggling with believing in themselves. Through photography, she builds their confidence in both themselves and their work so they can begin living their dream life. More than just a photography service, her hope is that every girl not only feels empowered throughout their time together, but also welcomed to her community of fellow females in business afterwards!
